Global Electrical Safety Standard

The relationship between Electrical Safety UK and Keysight Technologies started in July 2018. We were contacted by the Telford site in the UK to advise on Electrical Hazards associated with the repair and calibration of their client’s test equipment in a laboratory or workshop environment. Of particular concern was the use of clothing and wrist straps used to prevent electrostatic discharge whilst carrying out fault diagnosis on live test equipment in their workshops.

We carried out a site survey and produced a report on our findings. This led to us being invited to review an existing draft Global Electrical Safety Standard, and ultimately being asked to produce a new Global Electrical Safety Standard. We worked closely with our Keysight clients, mostly based in the USA. Online video conferencing enabled us to have regular progress meetings, keeping costs to a minimum, and helping to ensure we completed the project on time.

The Standard scope included:

  • Electrical Safety Rules
  • System and Equipment Identification
  • Assessment Procedure for Working Live or Lockout/Tagout (Dead)
  • Lockout/Tagout (dead) working
  • Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Control
  • PPE, Tools and Test Equipment
  • Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS)/Dual Fed Equipment
  • Management of portable electrical apparatus

We also developed a gap analysis tool that could be used to assess each site’s compliance with the Standard. The gap analysis tool output could then be used to put an action plan in place to move the site toward full compliance with the Standard.

Currently, we are helping Keysight with the production of an interactive computer based training module that would be used during the roll-out of the Standard to their Global workforce.

If your company would benefit from a review of it’s existing Electrical Safety Rules/Standard or you are thinking of introducing a new Standard, give us a call on +44 0333 257 0573. Our initial consultation is completely free of charge and without obligation.
